Biker Scout vs Ewoks by Robert-Shane Biker Scout vs Ewoks by Robert-Shane
I've always loved the design of the Biker Scouts (aka Scout Troopers) from Return of the Jedi. I think it's amazing how they made this costume look different from the original, iconic, Stormtroopers, but still similar enough that it looks like it's part of the same army.

I've added some Ewoks to make this look like an ambush on (the forest moon of) Endor. The placement of the Ewoks, and the trees behind them are key parts of the composition - designed to draw the viewer's eye in toward the Biker Scout.

This was drawn in Photoshop using a Wacom pad. I rarely use anything other than the standard 'hard round' brush - but for this one, I also used the 'stipple' brush on the Ewoks' fur and the tree trunks. The 'scattered leaves' brush was also a big help in painting the leaves on the trees in the background.

The characters are copyright of Disney - this is fan art and isn't for sale or reproduction.

Did you know that Jedi was originally supposed to have Wookies instead of Ewoks, but Luca$ wanted something cuter, more kid-friendly and therefore more marketable for cartoons and toys :P

Scout Trooper: Ohhh god...stay back...I'm warning you to stay back or I'll shoot!....stay back....STAY BACK! STAY BA--!!!

Even though he is wearing his helmet, I can tell that he has a terrified look on his face.

Hopefully, the ewoks just capture him instead of tearing him apart. Though, he might be their dinner later on...I hope the rebels rescued him. That will be ironic! :D

I'll give this art TWO THUMBS UP! Not just because it looks BEAUTIFUL, but the feels of what's it like being surrounded by blood-thirsty primitives and there's no way out from this heart-pumping situation. Nobody's gonna save you out of nowhere, so it is either fight to the death or just took a quick escape route by shooting yourself in the head. But if you have a thermal detonator, it's best to take your surrounding enemies with you to Purgatory or Hell itself.
Maybe you would have add a thermal detonator on his empty hand, to make your art more interesting! Though, it is a bit ridiculous to the Empire that the Scout Trooper died taking the teddy bears with him instead of the Rebels his comrades are fighting. LOL!!!!

If you get surrounded and you know you're screwed, use the thermal detonator to bring them all down with you!

Yeah, I never bought the fact that Ewoks can take down Storm troopers. I mean stick and stones can hurt stormies?

I just assume that they just brought the stormies down under their body weight, so the stormies couldn't fight, then let the rebels capture them xD

Great pic! Even as a child I totally liked biker scouts and I thought it was stupid that they didn't catch Luke and Leia. I hope that guy gets away :D

Good to know I'm not the only one who was cheering them on. My parents thought I had morality issues.

Thanks Nicole. I was always on the side of the scouts too - but I suppose we would have had a much shorter movie if they had caught Luke and Leia! And sadly I don't feel too good about this guy's chances of getting away either!

This is some top-notch stuff, friend. It's nothing less than incredible and captures the Scout perfectly.

We can only hope that he gets out of this mess in one piece. XD

...Reading "Copyright of Disney" was excruciatingly painful. More pain than your trooper is about to be in when those ewoks attack even...
However, awesome picture.

I'm very happy to clarify that the Scout Trooper costume was designed by Aggie Guerard Rodgers and Nilo Rodis-Jamero. The design of the Ewoks was an evolutionary process with the involvement of Joe Johnston, Ralph McQuarrie and Nilo Rodis-Jamero. Return of the Jedi was directed by Richard Marquand, with the screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan and George Lucas, from a story by George Lucas. The reason for citing Disney is because they do indeed own Star Wars and its characters. I intend no infringement of that copyright - and that is why it's important to indicate who the 'owners' are - even where the image is an original depiction of copyright characters. AND, SORRY BUT NO I DON'T TAKE REQUESTS (WHY ARE WE SHOUTING!?).

Extremely accurate portrayal of one of my favorite characters in the series.  I love the angle, coloring and intensity of the piece.  As a scout myself, I'd hate to be in this situation!  Then again, I survived round one on Endor, so I'm confident I could handle a few more Ewoks.

Yep - one of my favs too - and a design that looks as good now as it did in 1983. Glad to hear you made it out of that mess on Endor in one piece. Hopefully you get to ride off on your speeder bike into the sunset ;)

It was at that moment Scout Trooper 1246 questioned his decision to join the Imperial Army to impress a girl and not remain on Coruscant and run the family business with his father.

Yeah people are quick to forget that the Ewoks were going to cook and EAT Han, Luke, and Chewbacca! In the comics and in the novels you find out where they got all of the helmets for their drum routine at the end of Episode IV!!

Amazing job. You really paid attention to the detail on everything especially the scout. What model of wacom tablet do you have? I'm looking to get into digital drawing. I have a biker scout costume you can see photos in my galley if you're interested . I'm all about scout art and will be looking for a commissions eventually.

Thanks very much! Your costume is fantastic - I'm suitably envious! :) I've only got an old Rubies Scout helmet - which I used to help me with the perspective for this drawing but it's certainly not 'movie-accurate'. My Wacom pad is a basic 'Bamboo One' - it was relativley inexpensive and it does me fine. All of their products use the same basic technology and the more expensive versions only add on more buttons or bigger size - so if you're looking for somewhere to start perhaps try one out before you buy.

I'll have to look into the tablets, they'd motivate me more to draw using layers than without using pen and paper.  If you plan to do more scout art, and need any poses for reference let me know, I suit up usually once a month to volunteer with the 501st Legion and would be happy to help out.  Interested in upgrading to a full costume?  Let me know, I can hook you up with costume info :)

Thanks very much for the offer! I'm doing some other troops at the moment but will be bound to return to the Scouts again one day. If I need some inspiration I'll let you know! And the idea of a full costume is a seriously tempting one! but I'll make do with my Rubies helmet for living out my Scout dreams... for now! ;)

Now movie wise, this trooper is screwed.

However ''Officialy'' wise these Scout Troopers are trained for these kind of things and due to these Ewoks not being main characters means no Stormtrooper effect!

So İ say that Scout is gonna kick ass.
