Last month I entered into some shameless self promotion by sending my ‘Star Wars 7’ picture to the Star Wars fan site ‘Jedi News’. Turns out that was an inspired move because Mark Newbold from the site contacted me recently to draw a cover image for his ‘Quest for Freedom’ comic strip.
Mark described an action packed scene with his character ‘Commader Garven Kings’ taking on a room full of Stormtroopers having infiltrated a Super Star Destroyer. I sent Mark three thumbnail sketches showing three very different possible ways to depict the scene – and what you see here is the final version of the one that we agreed on for the cover image.
I thought it would make for an iconic image to use the helmet’s visor to show the reflection of the oncoming Stormtroopers, whilst also showing the emotion on the Commander’s face and hinting at the mayhem going on around him in the background.
This is a low-res version – drawn in Photoshop using a Wacom pad. It's fan art intended solely to show my artistic ability. I’m not a professional and the image isn’t for sale or available for reproduction.
